news, latest news,

A new Lonsdale Street store helps kiss firm fashion goodbye. Consignment store Goodbyes opened its doors Monday morning, filled to the brim with unique recycled jewelry that is fashionable and helps the environment at the same time. Monique Thomas and Olivia Mangan are the brains behind Goodbyes. Both had worked in the fashion industry abroad, but when they returned to their home country Australia, they set their sights on a second-hand shop. “We are fortunate to work in a part of the industry that does not create any negative impact, which is quite rarely in vogue,” says Thomas. “And when we got back to Australia, we did not know where to shop, because we were used to shopping second-hand, and we wanted this on a personal level.” READ MORE: The duo have already opened Goodbyes stores and made a name for themselves in Melbourne and Hobart, but when Thomas grew up in Canberra, it was always on the cards to open a store in the capital. “We’ve been looking for a place in Braddon for a long time on Lonsdale Street, and it’s dictated by vacancies for us, but when this one came up, we took the chance,” says Thomas. Goodbyes is a place where people can not only pick up some quality clothes, shoes and accessories in love, but it is also a place where they can sell some of the items they no longer want. Canberrans can take items they want to sell to the store seven days a week. Goodbye sells it well and pays the original owner 50 percent of what it sold for, minus sales tax and a handling fee of 50 cents. “Our primary focus is quality and longevity, so we do not want to discriminate by brand,” says store manager Claudia Tetreault-Percy. “We are selective when it comes to quality, longevity and things that have beautiful fabrics and in a condition that can also be sold, so it passes to the next person in a state that is still portable and that can live a long life. “We welcome everything across the board from plus size to masc styles because we started with a smaller masc section, but we want it to grow.” Goodbyes is at 27 Lonsdale Street, Braddon.
