Prepare for the next chapter of the Tomb Raider series to delve into that question. Square Enix has announced a new title, simply called Tomb Raider, which will visit the origins of Lara's transformation into a fearless explorer.
"After a brutal storm destroys the boat she was travelling on, a frightened young woman is left washed ashore on an unknown beach. On her own but not alone she has only one goal, to survive," reads a statement from Square Enix revealing the game.

Since the first Tomb Raider debuted in 1996, the franchise has sold 35 million copies. Earlier this year, the series entered the digital download space for the first time with the release of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light for PC, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.
Square Enix did not offer details on a release date or available platforms.
